It is an effective anti-anxiety drug that is used to control anxiety and is used for short term treatment of insomnia. Etizolam is part of the benzodiazepine class of drugs which is where you can also find other drugs like antidepressants. This is also where Etizolam derives from as it acts much like an antidepressant by producing a feeling of wellbeing and calmness along with serving as a relaxant to the body. Evidence has shown that different from benzodiazepines, Etizolam does not count on a speedy build-up to gain strength but if abused can have greater side effects. There has been much concern of Etizolam being abused for its calming and euphoric effects of getting “high” or being used a date rape drug for its amnesia producing effects and the ability it has to lessen an individual’s consciousness. Though it is difficult to prove that this drug is being abused in the United States there has been over 120 drug reports from 2012-2014 in 21 states of people using Etizolam as a recreational drug. Duration of withdrawal from Etizolam
In a clinical trial where the focus was the use of Etizolam for anxiety symptoms, the results showed that Etizolam was more effective over a longer period of time when compared to other benzodiazepines which tend to become less effective over time. As when a drug becomes less effective, a stronger drug or dose is needed to the same effective result. With Etizolam, it’s not the case as Etizolam can be described as a reverse tolerant. Lastly, Etizolam should be used for a short period of time as the longer its used the higher is the chance of addiction.
